Sony HDR-HC9 IR Enabled

Model: XNiteSonyHC9 (USA Model NTSC) - PAL model on request

Please Note: Sony no longer produces this camera.  We can occasionally find new cameras, but can mostly only find refurbished or used cameras in very-good to excellent condition.  Because of limited supplies, we can no longer guarantee that you will get a new camera for this model.  You may also send us in your camera for conversion.

High Definition Mini DV Infrared Capable Camcorder!

The HDR-HC9 is the definition of stealth—it’s an HDR-HC7 with a fresh coat of glossy black paint. Up front, you’ll notice Sony slapped a hood on the 10x optical zoom lens, which blocks light and gives the camcorder a professional look. Unfortunately, this hood will likely block the light from the pop-out flash if used for macro shooting. The lens has an aperture range of f/1.8-2.9 and is capable of the following focal lengths:

-5.4mm-54mm
-40mm-400mm in 16:9 video mode (35mm conversion)
-49mm-490mm in 4:3 video mode (35mm conversion)
-40mm-400mm in 16:9 still mode (35mm conversion)
-37mm-370mm in 4:3 still mode (memory)

The HDR-HC9 has a 37mm filter diameter for the addition of aftermarket filters or lenses. An automatic lens enclosure system operates in tandem with powering on and off the camcorder, and is one less thing to worry about during a shoot

Externally, there are no visual changes. Internally, we have modified the optics so that the camera can see from 330nm to 1200nmx versus a stock camera which can see from about 380nm to 750nm

 Specifications

Complete Infrared (X-Ray) Functionality!  Full Infrared (IR) capability with all normal camera functions including aperture control.  You can use the IR features on a sunny beach with no overexposure problems that a stock factory camcorder would have.

Special Note:  This modified camera must use our XNite-CC1 color correction filter for normal (non-IR) pictures.  This modified camera is sensitive to both IR and visible light.  If you take pictures with no filters, the camera will see both the IR light and visible light which will alter the correct color balance.  To take normal pictures, use the camera with a XNite-CC1 filter to block IR and pass visible.  Please see example pictures on color balance here.  To take IR (X-Ray) pictures, you should use one of our XNite IR filters which block visible light and pass IR.

The 37mm filters for this camera are available Here.
