Nikon D850 Camera Modified for Monochrome Visible Light.

1 Week Rent.

Replacement Cost: $6,000.00

This was a color camera that has been modified to monochrome visible light.  If you are shooting JPG, then we recommend setting a custom White Balance (WB) and setting picture style to monochrome.  If you are shooting in RAW, while you can use your normal workflow, for best results, we recommend first using software such as Monochrome2DNG (30 day free trial and $25 to buy) which will convert the camera RAW file to a 16 bit DNG RAW file without debayering.  After that, you can use your normal workflow.  Other options include Accuraw Monochrome (Mac Only) or free software DarkTable and using the monochrome debayer option.

If you are unsure what use a monochrome camera rather than using a color camera and converting to post, we recommend you read a comparison analysis here.  Basically, a camera sensor can deliver a fixed amount of information.  When you include color information, spatial and contrast resolution are reduced.  Once a color picture is taken, you can't the lost spatial and contrast resolution back because it was never captured in the first place.
